FC Cincinnati set another record as the most popular soccer match this weekend

The biggest crowd of soccer fans in the United States this weekend didn't come out to see an established decades-old team or a first-division MLS match.
They came out to see FC Cincinnati, a first-year club in the lower division USL play their first playoff game. The 30,187 fans in attendance set a new USL single-game attendance record, which is not exactly a surprise — FC Cincinnati have broken their own attendance record three times already this season.

Cincinnati ultimately fell 1-2 to the Charleston Battery in the quarterfinal, but it capped off an incredible first season for the new club as fans turned out in droves.
For a team that didn't exist one year ago and plays their games in a college football stadium, FC Cincinnati have been one of the most impressive success stories of the year in American soccer. MLS, which has at least four more expansion slots opening up in the future, has unsurprisingly taken notice of what FC Cincinnati are doing. Last week, news emerged that MLS commissioner Don Garber has plans to visit the city and executives from FC Cincinnati.

FC Cincinnati's first-ever season may now be over, but it looks like things are just getting started for them.
