Authorities say six people sustained minor injuries in chaotic scenes as thousands of fans tried to buy tickets for the inaugural match at the Arena Fonte Nova in northeastern Brazil, one of the venues for next year's 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Police used pepper spray and tear gas to contain the crowd in the city of Salvador after fans began to clash as organizers started running out of tickets on Friday.
Some fans tried to break through the stadium's gates to get inside the stadium.
Most of the 40,000 tickets for the match between local rivals Bahia and Vitoria had already been sold online.
Earlier Friday, a worker died after a fall at the construction site of the Arena da Amazonia, which will also be used in the 2014 World Cup.
