Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao has been banned for four games and will miss the Spanish Super Cup match against Barcelona.

The Spanish federation's disciplinary committee says Coentrao was banned for insulting the referee at the end of Madrid's 2-1 league loss to Getafe on Sunday.

Also, Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova will miss two matches following Wednesday's game.

Vilanova, who can lead his team against Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, will miss subsequent Spanish league matches against Valencia and Getafe as he serves out the suspension resulting from his own criticism of referees in a 2-1 win at Osasuna.

Osasuna will be without captain Francisco Punal for four games after the committee came down hard on the midfielder for arguing that Barcelona's equalizer was offside.

All three clubs said they would appeal their respective bans.
