FA denies having decided action against QPR
The Football Association has denied a newspaper report that it has already decided to block Queens Park Rangers' promotion to the Premier League over allegations the west London club broke transfer rules.
Citing an unnamed FA source, The Sun reported Saturday that the FA was mulling a 15-point deduction over allegations that the second-tier League Championship leader flouted a ban on third-party ownership of players by signing Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009.
Third-party ownership of players has been prohibited since the furore over Carlos Tevez's status with West Ham in 2007.
QPR clinched the League Championship title and promotion on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Watford, but a hefty deduction would deny it an automatic place in the top flight and leave the club in contention for elevation via the playoffs.
''The FA clarifies that no comment has been made regarding charges against QPR,'' the FA said in a statement. ''Any alleged FA source is not speaking on behalf of The FA, and The FA's policy remains not to comment on the charges, evidence or potential range of sanctions before the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.''
The FA has been investigating the signing of Faurlin since QPR asked to buy the player's economic rights in September.
The hearing into the case begins Tuesday.
QPR last played in the Premier League in the 1995-96 season.
