COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Two businessmen who ran the company behind Denmark's national football arena and leading club FC Copenhagen have been convicted of stock market manipulation and given prison sentences.
The Copenhagen City Court says Flemming Oestergaard and Joergen Glistrup, respectively the former chairman and manager of Parken Sport & Entertainment, were found guilty of trading 280 million kroner ($42 million) of the company's shares in 2007 and 2008 to keep the stock up.
The court Tuesday sentenced Glistrup to six months in jail and Oestergaard to four months, and fined the company 1 million kroner ($149.500). Oestergaard's lawyer Sysette Vinding Kruse appealed the verdict immediately
The charismatic Oestergaard, who stepped down in 2010, leaving a 2 billion kroner debt, is credited with the rise of FC Copenhagen, one of Denmark's top clubs.
