Bauza coached Liga de Quito to the 2008 Copa Libertadores title, and then finished second to Manchester United in the 2008 Club World Cup in Yokohama, Japan.

He resigned after the 1-0 loss to the English team and was succeeded by Fossati, who won the Recopa Sudamericana and Copa Sudamericana.

The Argentine confirmed he was taking the job Tuesday in a radio interview. He is expected to travel from Argentina to Ecuador on Sunday to finalize the details of his contract.

"The Liga fans knows us," Bauza said. "He knows we'll do everything possible to do a great job."

Asked about players changes he might make, Bauza hedged.

"We'll try to put together the best team we can so we can be true to the club's history and recent success," he said.
