Dundee United chairman's deal for Newcastle Jets breaks down

SYDNEY (AP) Talks between Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson and Football Federation Australia have broken down over the sale of the A-League's Newcastle Jets.

The FFA released a statement on Thursday saying Thompson's consortium failed to complete the agreed sale by the informal Oct. 31 deadline, meaning they have lost their exclusivity to the Jets.

FFA chief executive David Gallop says ''we will continue to talk to the Thompson group, but FFA will now resume talks with other interested parties.''

In May, FFA revoked Newcastle's license and took over the team after financially troubled owner Nathan Tinkler placed the club into voluntary administration.

Scotland Premier League side Dundee United first indicated it was interested in buying the Jets last December.
