Thomas Kahlenberg's injury-time goal gave Denmark a 1-0 win over Iceland on Tuesday in qualifying for the 2012 European Championship.

Kahlenberg picked up a pass from Dennis Rommedahl before shooting the ball past goalkeeper Gunnleifur Vignir Gunnleifsson.

The goal came at the end of a lackluster game in which the Danes started strongly through shots by Michael Krohn-Dehli, Christian Poulsen and Rommedahl.

Denmark failed to convert its chances, though, and the visitors almost took advantage, with Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson, Rurik Gislason and Aron Einar Gunnarsson coming closest for Iceland.

''It was well deserved because we had lots of chances. Especially in the first half. But they were dangerous,'' Denmark coach Morten Olsen said. ''If we had scored earlier it was the kind of game we could have won 3-0 or 4-0. But 1-0 is also good enough.''

Gislason ran clear in the 53rd but was eventually stopped after Denmark's defense scrambled back into position.

The Danes fielded a new-look team after several veteran players quit international football following a poor showing at the World Cup.

Denmark was also without two injured key players as Nicklas Bendtner missed the match with a groin injury and experienced goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen pulled out Tuesday with a sore left elbow. He was replaced by newcomer Anders Lindegaard.
