Mohamed Al Fayed is in advanced talks to sell Fulham, according to Sky sources.
Al Fayed has begun the process of ending his 16-year ownership of the club and has held discussions with at least one interested buyer, although it is not yet clear who the potential purchasers are.
Sky Sports News contacted Craven Cottage and Al Fayed's representatives for an official response, but both declined to comment.
Al Fayed converted outstanding loans to the club into equity in January, leaving them effectively debt-free, while a second successive profit was reported for the year ending June 2012.
Fulham have become an established Premier League club under the 84-year-old's ownership, and the forthcoming season will be their 13th straight season in the division.
The 37-year-old played for 45 minutes of the Brewers' pre-season defeat at Ilkeston on Tuesday night.
He will continue to train with the club this week and their location could swing it for the Derby-based defender.
"I've known Gary (Rowett) for years and he gave me a ring to come down and look at things," Delap told the Burton Mail.
"Burton would be brilliant, but it's got to be right for the club and me. I've had a few offers but none really viable thinking about my family."
Rowett added: "In an ideal world he's going to stay local. He'll have offers from one or two decent clubs but he's based in Derbyshire and at his age spending time with your kids can be as important as anything."
