Davies has missed the Trotters' last three matches with an ankle injury but he is in contention to face the Black Cats. However, Tamir Cohen is banned following his red card at West Ham and Gary Cahill is not expected back in full training for another week as he continues his recovery from a blood clot in his arm. Stuart Holden (fractured fibula), Gavin McCann (ankle), Chris Basham, Joey O'Brien and Sean Davis (all knee) are also still sidelined.
