Colombia defeats Peru 2-0 and stays in chase

Goals from Radamel Falcao and Teofilio Gutierrez earned Colombia a 2-0 victory against Peru on Tuesday in South American World Cup qualifying.

The victory keeps Colombia on course for a place in next year's World Cup in Brazil. Second-place Colombia improved to 26 points from 13 matches, and Peru stayed on 14 points from the same number of games.

The top four teams in the group advance automatically to the World Cup with the fifth-place team facing a playoff for a berth.

Brazil qualifies automatically as the host nation.

Falcao converted a penalty in the 13th minute and Gutierrez scored in first-half stoppage time.
