Cole rejected an 11th hour approach from Aston Villa to take up the chance to play in France. A statement on the official Lille website read: "With the arrival of England international Joe Cole, LOSC has clearly improved the squad both in quantity and quality. "The club is pleased and proud to be able to attract a player of his magnitude." And the Reds added on their official website: "Liverpool announced today it had finalised a deal with Lille OSC for the loan transfer of Joe Cole. "The 29-year-old will now join the French champions for the remainder of the current campaign."
