Carew: Villa not suffering hangover

John Carew believes Aston Villa will suffer no hangover from their double festive setback and insists: "Those defeats will not break us."

Villa went into Christmas lying in fourth spot in the Premier League but were beaten 3-0 at Arsenal and then lost to an injury-time goal against Liverpool, dropping them to sixth in the table.

Martin O'Neill's side will be mindful of their dramatic fade during the final third of last season when a Champions League spot was beckoning at the start of March.

But Carew is confident Villa will learn from those experiences and sustain a top four challenge. The Norwegian international said: "To lose in injury-time like that against Liverpool was very disappointing.

"We deserved at least a draw. The most important thing is not to lose the games.

"We have had two losses in a row but we've still got lots to look forward to - and this little sequence is not going to break us.

"We are going to come back from this. We've had a great season until now, we are also in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup, and we have to get back on track." Carew added: "It's important to stay positive, it's very important, and we're going to do that in the next game.

"We have to learn from last season and I'm sure we have done, so I hope and think that this season's going to be different.

"We're going to get over this disappointment as quick as we can."
