The Paraguayan player who survived being shot in the head plans to appeal to sport's highest court to try to receive the $2 million in salary and benefits that he claims to be owed by Club America of Mexico.
Salvador Cabanas' lawyer, Gerardo Acosta, said Thursday that an appeal will soon be lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. America denies Cabanas' claims.
Cabanas, 30, was shot in the head at point-blank range 11 months ago in a Mexico City bar. He miraculously survived the attack but is not expected to play again.
He was the top footballer for America and was likely to have
played for Paraguay at the World Cup in South Africa earlier this
year.
