Bordeaux forward Yoan Gouffran joins Newcastle
Forward Yoan Gouffran has joined Newcastle on a four-and-a-half-year deal, becoming the third French player signed by the English Premier League club during the transfer window.
The 26-year-old Gouffran helped Bordeaux to win the French league four seasons ago, scoring the winning goal at Caen that sealed the title. He scored 40 goals in 183 games for Bordeaux playing either wide on the right or more recently as a center forward.
Both clubs announced the transfer on their websites.
This week, center half Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa joined Newcastle from defending champion Montpellier, and right back Mathieu Debuchy joined at the start of the month from Lille.
Newcastle has nine French players in its squad and it could soon be 10, with Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko reportedly close to joining.
