Boca Juniors rallied to salvage a 2-2 draw with struggling Quilmes on Sunday, a missed chance for the popular Buenos Aires club to move nearer the top of the Argentine Clausura standings.
Boca has 26 points from 17 matches, four points behind league-leading Velez. Lanus has 29 and Godoy Cruz 28.
In other matches, River Plate rallied for a 1-1 draw with Colon, Gimnasia played a 0-0 draw with Racing and Huracan defeated Tigre 3-2.
Quilmes took the lead after an own goal by Matias Caruzzo in the 26th minute, and Danilo Gerlo's strike in the 42nd made it 2-0. However, Martin Palermo and Cristian Chavez scored in the second half to secure the draw for Boca.
Leandro Caruso scored in the 82nd for River Plate to cancel out Esteban Fuertes's goal in the 57th for Colon.
River is battling relegation and could face a two-game playoff at the end of the season to stay in the top flight. Relegation in Argentina is determined on results over three years, and the last several have been poor for the Buenos Aires club, which is saddled with debts of about $19 million.
River has 25 points this season, which has been better than the last several - but perhaps not good enough.
Javier Campora scored twice and Gaston Machin added the other in Huracan's victory. Mariano Echeverria and Esteban Gonzalez scored for Tigre.
The round continues Monday with Independiente vs. Lanus, Argentinos vs. Estudiantes and Velez vs. Godoy Cruz.
Saturday's match at Rosario between Newell's Old Boys and San Lorenzo was called off after a police officer was shot by hooligans before the match began. He sustained only minor injuries and the Argentine Football Association has not rescheduled the match.
Violence is common at club matches in Argentina. Three matches have been suspended in 2011 due to violence, and 13 people have been killed in football-related violence in just over a year. The last death was March 20 when a San Lorenzo fan died after a confrontation with police outside the Velez Sarsfield stadium.
The nonprofit group ''Let's Save Football'' says 256 people have been killed in Argentina in football-related violence since 1924.
