U.S. men's national team head coach Bob Bradley has yet to sign a new contract for beyond 2010, but multiple sources have refuted recent reports claiming he has resigned or been fired.
Several reports have surfaced claiming that Bradley is stepping down as coach of the United States, with some UK-based reports claiming he was already accepting the Aston Villa managerial position. Both U.S. Soccer and Bradley's agent have categorically denied that Bradley has made any such moves.
"All these reports that are coming out saying Bob is quitting (as U.S. national team head coach) are absolutely false," said Ron Waxman, Bradley's New York-based agent.
"Not sure where this stuff comes from but none of it is true."
U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe also shot down the speculation, stating that Bradley's status with the national team has not changed and Bradley was expected to meet with U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati next week to discuss Bradley's future.
As for the Bradley-Aston Villa link, Yahoo Sports reported on Friday that Bradley was not being considered for the position, citing source close to the Aston Villa board. A source has told Fox Soccer that Aston Villa has yet to meet with candidates to be the long-term managerial replacement for Martin O'Neill, who resigned on Monday.
So what does the future hold for Bradley?
Right now it appears his dreams of a job in the Premier League look like they will have to wait, but he remains a candidate to stay on as U.S. national team head coach beyond this year. U.S. Soccer is believed to be considering other candidates, but a decision has yet to be made on whether Bradley will definitely be replaced.
The U.S. national team is expected to return to action October 9th, with a friendly against Poland currently in the works.
