FIFA President Sepp Blatter has sent condolences to Congo after 20 people from the Virgin KA football club drowned while returning from a match in Zambia.

FIFA says Blatter has written to Congolese football federation president Constant Omari Selemani conveying ''the deep sympathy and support of the entire international football family.''

Players, club officials and fans were traveling on the Luapula river on Sunday when their three boats were capsized by a wave caused by a passing boat.

FIFA says the boats were carrying around 100 people after the Virgin KA team had played a friendly match.
