Blackburn closer to drop zone after Everton defeat
Blackburn moved closer to the Premier League relegation zone after losing 2-0 at Everton on Saturday with second-half goals from Leon Osman and Leighton Baines.
Blackburn has failed to win in nine matches and dropped one place to 16th, while seventh-place Everton is chasing cross-city rival Liverpool which has one more point and plays Arsenal on Sunday.
Osman's deflected shot broke the deadlock at Goodison Park in the 54th after receiving a short corner from Magaye Gueye. Osman easily sidestepped Ruben Rochina and his shot went in at the far post after hitting Chris Samba.
Baines converted a penalty to make it 2-0 in the 75th after Phil Jones fouled Seamus Coleman.
The visitors hardly tested home goalkeeper Tim Howard with Blackburn having failed to win away since December.
The Toffees should have claimed a second-minute lead when Blackburn's Jermaine Jones accidentally put Jermaine Beckford through with a backwards header but the former Leeds forward blasted over.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov controlled the ball well on the edge of the area to create a chance for Phil Neville but the Everton captain, who scored his first goal in three years last week, shot over.
Everton continued to finish strongly and Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson tipped over a header from Bilyaletdinov at the far post in the closing moments.
