Spanish topflight club Real Betis has signed striker Roque Santa Cruz from Manchester City on loan for the season.
The Paraguay international failed to establish himself at City after a move from Blackburn in 2009 and had spent the second half of last season on loan at his former club.
The former Bayern Munich striker scored just four goals in 18 months with City, where he found himself frozen out by manager Roberto Mancini who preferred recent signings Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez or Mario Balotelli up front.
Betis, which is in bankruptcy protection, opened the season with a 1-0 victory over fellow recently promoted club Granada.
