France winger Hatem Ben Arfa has joined Premier League club Newcastle from Marseille on a season-long loan deal, with a view to a permanent move.
The 23-year-old Ben Arfa won the French league with Marseille last season but was never a regular starter for Didier Deschamps' side.
Ben Arfa said Saturday ''it was always my first choice to come here. I want to showcase my skills in Newcastle.''
The attacking midfielder, who began his career at Lyon, has won eight caps for France and scored two goals, the second coming against Norway earlier this month.
