The Germany defender struggled to hold down regular first-team football due to a variety of reasons during his debut Premier League campaign. The 22-year-old has reportedly informed City boss Roberto Mancini of his desire to return to the Bundesliga, with Bayern eager to acquire the former Hamburg stopper. Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed Boateng is on the club's radar and he hopes in the coming days the clubs will be able to finalise a deal. "I believe that there is a chance that we will come to an agreement. We will have to play a waiting game and this is not something which will be resolved in the next two or three days," he told Kicker. City, for their part, have shown little inclination to lose the German, with sporting director Mike Rigg describing Boateng as "unsellable". The main stumbling block is City's insistence on a transfer fee in the region of €20 million (£17.7million), with Bayern currently only prepared to stump up €12.5m (£11million). Should the two clubs eventually come to an agreement, Boateng would become the latest high-profile signing as the club look to mount a stiffer challenge for the Bundesliga title under new coach Jupp Heynckes, in the wake of this season's third-placed finish. Manuel Neuer, Rafinha and Nils Petersen have already moved to the Allianz Arena this summer.
