Bayern chairman: Guardiola says he's seeking 'new challenge'
MUNICH (AP) Bayern Munich's chairman says Pep Guardiola told him he is leaving the club to pursue ''a new challenge,'' but he isn't saying where that will be.
Bayern announced Sunday that Guardiola will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season and be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Monday's edition of German daily Bild that Guardiola told him at the club's Christmas party two weeks ago ''he is seeking a new challenge, and he almost apologized for that.''
Asked whether Guardiola said where he is going, Rummenigge replied: ''I think I know where he is going. But I would like to leave the announcement to him or his new employer.''
Guardiola has been linked for months with the Manchester City job held by Manuel Pellegrini.
