Port Vale's Tom Pope hailed the emphatic 6-2 victory over Rotherham as the highlight of his football career thus far.

Pope netted four times against his former club and was described as "awesome" by manager by boss Micky Adams.

The striker, 27, had an unforgettable two-year spell for the Millers but he enjoyed showing the fans what they missed out on.

"It's probably the best day of my footballing career so far," he told the club's official website. "I've had a few decent performances and scored a few vital goals, but I think especially with it being against Rotherham, it adds a bit of spice to it.

"I had a lot of stick from the fans during my time there. I struggled with injuries, which is something I had never done before, so I know for a fact that Rotherham never saw the best of me.

"I felt that they gave me a bit too much stick, so it was nice to score and show them what they were missing out on."
