Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone defended Juanfran Torres after his club's right back lost the ball that led to France's last-gasp equalizer against Spain in World Cup qualifying.
Torres, making his competitive debut for the world and European champions, lost possession for Olivier Giroud to score on the game's final move in a 1-1 draw Tuesday that ended Spain's run of qualifying wins at 24.
Simeone says ''we talk about Juanfran's play but no one says anything about him saving the team five minutes before, when defending alone against three. These things happen, this is football.''
Torres was troubled by Franck Ribery after having replaced the injured Alvaro Arbeloa.
