Argentine club Lanus won its first international title by defeating Ponte Preta of Brazil 2-0 in the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday.

Lanus clinched the title 3-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week in Sao Paulo.

Victor Hugo Ayala opened the scoring in the 25th minute and Ismael Blanco sealed the victory three minutes into first-half stoppage time.

The Copa Sudamericana is South America's secondary continental club competition behind the Copa Libertadores. The Copa Sudamericana winner secures a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores.

While Lanus is near the top of the table in the Argentine league, Ponte Preta was relegated to the second division of the Brazilian league just a few weeks ago.
