Alex Morgan scored her first career hat trick and Abby Wambach added her 134th goal, leading the United States over Sweden 4-0 Wednesday in the third-place match of the Algarve Cup.
Morgan scored in the fourth, 33rd and 72nd minutes, and Wambach scored in the 36th in Parchal, Portugal.
Germany won the title for the second time, beating world champion Japan 4-3 in a wild finish. Germany converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute, Japan tied it 3-3 in the 90th and Germany scored in stoppage time.
Japan defeated the U.S. 1-0 in the semifinals on Monday. The team also beat the Americans in the final of the World Cup.
