Ajax wants Johan Cruyff out as board member

Soccer great Johan Cruyff has been asked to resign as a board member of Ajax following a feud among the club's leadership.

Ajax's governing council Tuesday demanded that all five members of the supervisory board quit. The dispute began two weeks ago, with four board members appointing Louis van Gaal to the club's top executive job without consulting Cruyff.

If any board member refuses to quit, all club members will vote on the matter.

Cruyff will remain in a ceremonial role and maintain his youth training program with Ajax. Cruyff played for Ajax from 1964-73 and 1981-83 and coached the club from 1985-88.
