Corinthians says it is fining former Brazil striker Adriano 10 percent of his salary for being late for training.
Adriano said a flight delay caused him to be late for Monday's session, but club directors still decided to fine the player whose off-the-field problems marked much of his career.
Corinthians acquired Adriano in March after he had a disappointing season with AS Roma, but the player ruptured his left Achilles' tendon in his first days of practice and is yet to debut with the popular Brazilian club.
Club director Roberto de Andrade told the GloboEsporte.com web site Tuesday that Adriano is expected to play for Corinthians for the first time on Oct. 9.
Adriano played the 2006 World Cup with Brazil but was not in the squad in 2010.
