Wisconsin men's hockey rallies for 3-all tie
MADISON -- The No. 12-ranked Wisconsin men's hockey squad clawed out a 3-3 tie against No. 13 Lake Superior State Friday night.
The Badgers (2-2-1) fell behind early, yielding three goals in the first 4:09 of the contest, but eventually fought back to post the tie.
Senior Tyler Barnes tallied two key, third-period goals for Wisconsin. Fellow Badgers senior Michael Mersch scored his fourth power-play goal of the season. Additionally, senior Mark Zengerle tallied an assist for this 123rd career point for UW. Zengerle's career point total now ties Michael Davies for the highest career point total for a Badger under current head coach Mike Eaves.
Badger sophomore Nic Kerdiles tallied a point in his 17th consecutive game dating back to last season.
Wisconsin fell in a six-round shootout, 3-2 to Lake Superior State (4-0-1), but the game still goes into the record books as a tie. However, in Big Ten play this season, winning shootout teams will get an extra point in the standings.
It marked UW’s first shootout since Dec. 28, 2008.
