The Wings hope to have two players back soon after the All-Star break.
Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson has not played since dislocating his left shoulder Nov. 5 at the New York Rangers.
Forward Tomas Jurco hasn't played since leaving after the second period because of back spasms Jan. 6 in Edmonton.
Gustavsson has been practicing with the team.
"It's better every day, actually," Gustavsson said. "I feel like I'm getting closer. I don't worry or think about my injury as much. I still have some work to do, but I feel hopeful and hopefully I can be back somewhere after the break."
Gustavsson said it depends how he feels but he will also take into account what his doctors say.
"If I feel I can go, then obviously I can go," Gustavsson said. "If they feel I should wait, that's something we talk about. We're going to come to a decision together, but of course I listen to them."
Jurco has been on the ice for just a short time.
"I skated (Monday) just with Gus (Gustav Nyquist) and Lash (Brian Lashoff), we were doing some drills," Jurco said. "Day before that I was doing just a few laps, so it's my third day. I feel pretty good but I feel it's not ready yet."
Jurco said his back had been bothering him for a while before the pain increased to the point where he couldn't play anymore in Edmonton.
Since then, he's been taking medication, getting treatment and doing some light workouts.
"It's huge progress since Day 1 when I couldn't really move," Jurco said. "Right now I'm skating so it's way better but it's not 100 percent ready yet, so we'll see."
Like Gustavsson, Jurco is aiming to return after the All-Star break.
"Not really sure when, can't tell you an exact date, but it's getting closer," Jurco said.
