Whyte earns Pac-12 player of week award

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona senior Davellyn Whyte was named the Pac-12 Conference player of the week for the week of Feb. 18-24, the conference office announced on Monday.

Whyte averaged 24.5 points, 14 rebounds and 8.5 assists while shooting 47.2 percent for Arizona in a pair of narrow defeats to Arizona State.

She opened the week posting the first triple-double in program history and only the 16th in Pac-12 history. She led all players with 31 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in an 81-77 double-overtime loss to ASU in Tucson on Tuesday. It was her third 30-point game of the season, the most for a Pac-12 player this year.

She followed up with an 18-point, 12 rebound performance in a 59-58 loss to the Sun Devils on Sunday, also adding seven assists. She became the second player in Arizona women’s basketball history to score 2,000-plus career points and only the 14th player in league history to reach the milestone.

Whyte will be recognized  for her 2,000-point achievement on Friday, March 1, before the Wildcats take on USC at 8 p.m.
