Who is Rachel Roy?
Beyonce's visual album Lemonade premiered Saturday night and is now out on Tidal, and if you've been anywhere near social media Sunday, you've probably seen that "Rachel Roy" has been trending since the album's release. Who is Rachel Roy, you might be wondering, and why are Beyonce's fans melting down on Twitter? We're here to help.
Lemonade is full of lyrics on multiple songs that can be perceived as Beyonce accusing her husband Jay Z of infidelity. On Lemonade's fourth song, Sorry, Beyonce references one woman in particular: Becky with the good hair.
"Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home
Today I regret the night I put that ring on
He always got them [expletive] excuses
He only want me when I'm not on there
He better call Becky with the good hair"
Shortly after the song was released and people began freaking out about what the lyrics might signify, fashion designer Rachel Roy made reference to her "good hair" in an Instagram post.
Beyonce fans began blowing up Roy's Instagram with comments, leading Roy to make her Instagram private. She responded to the furor on Twitter Sunday afternoon.
Rachel Roy has a history with Jay Z and the Knowles family. Roy was married to Damon Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella records along with Jay Z, for four years. Roy's relationship with Jay Z is what reportedly caused Solange Knowles to attack Jay Z in an elevator in 2014.
The best part of this beef? All the Beyonce supporters mistaking Roy for Rachael Ray.
