Vince Young is out of work, but he says there's always a job in Texas waiting for him.
The legendary quarterback of the Longhorns was released by the Green Bay Packers last August, and he hasn't taken any meaningful snaps in the NFL since his short stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011.
Young has his own steakhouse in Austin, Texas, but that's not where he would be working if his playing days are officially done.
"If football doesn't work out for me, the university has a great job for me," Young told the Houston Chronicle at an event on Wednesday. "Whatever it is I just want to support the university."
A spot on new Texas head coach Charlie Strong's staff? Not exactly.
Young told The Chronicle he would serve as an ambassador for Texas and do speaking engagements.
But getting back on an NFL roster is still his No. 1 priority.
"All I can do is my part and stay ready," he said. "You never know when you are going to get a call. There is some interest."
Young led Texas to the 2005 BCS National Championship and was the third overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
