Week 10 fantasy football recap: Roethlisberger lights up Browns

The Best of the Week

The Bills’ LeSean McCoy and Jets’ Eric Decker had solid fantasy performances in last Thursday’s Week 10 contest. Shady racked up 159 total yards and Decker caught a touchdown pass for the third straight game and continued his PPR-streak of double-digit fantasy production in every game started in 2015. However, their 20+ fantasy point performances ranked outside the Top 10 by halftime of Sunday’s early games. That’s halftime.

For the second time in three games, Kirk Cousins torched one of the league’s worst pass defenses. As much as we like those 324 passing yards and four touchdowns – 37 fantasy points - against the Saints, those who streamed Cousins in season-long leagues and took the bargain in weekly DFS, need to avoid him Week 11 against the Panthers.

Make fun of Jay Cutler and his personality quirks, flaws all you want, but from a fantasy football perspective he remains steady Eddie. Since missing the Seahawks game with an injury, Cutler is averaging 23 fantasy points per game. For the season, quarterbacks averaging better than 23 fantasy points per game rank top 10 at the position. Two huge touchdown pass plays to Zach Miller and Jeremy Langford accounted for the bulk of Cutlers’ 258 passing yards and 30.7 fantasy points against the Rams, but let’s not mince words – the big game came against the Rams on their home turf. It was Cutler’s first game of 3+ touchdowns with 250+ passing yards with no interceptions since Week 2 of the 2010 season.

With Matt Forte on the mend, Jeremy Langford started his second consecutive game for the Bears. The rookie running back out of Michigan State posted the numbers a lot of fantasy pundits expected against the Chargers last Monday night. San Diego allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs through the first eight weeks of the season. However, heading into Week 10, the Rams boasted a top seven rush defense in yards allowed per rush (3.8) and top nine defense in rushing touchdowns allowed (5). Langford’s second fantasy matchup wasn’t as friendly. I had him ranked RB24 – as I write this he’s RB1 with 37.2 fantasy points.

Ben Roethlisberger Lite is still Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers franchise quarterback with the injured foot was named Landry Jones’ back-up against the Browns. Early in the first quarter, Big Ben replaced Jones who suffered his own ankle injury. Hobbled, but upright, Roethlisberger passed for a season-high 379 yards with three touchdowns – 33.2 FP. To no surprise, Antonio Brown was Ben’s favorite target (10 receptions for 139 yards with two touchdowns), but Martavis Bryant reminded all owners why the four-game suspension was such a buzzkill earlier this season. MB caught six passes for 178 yards with a score. The Browns are front runners for the first overall Draft pick in 2016, which they will proceded to trade – probably.

After a slow start, the Saints Brandin Cooks is averaging 19.3 fantasy points per game in PPR leagues. With games against the Buccaneers, Lions and Jaguars during the fantasy playoffs, owners who qualify should be thrilled their patience paid off.

Contrary to popular belief and contrary to Matt Jones’ 27.7 fantasy points scored against the Saints, Alfred Morris produced his best fantasy game of the season (PPR). ALF rushed 15 times for 92 yards with three receptions for 14 yards - 13.6 fantasy points.

Zach Ertz caught a season-high seven passes, but Brent Celek finished with four receptions for 134 yards against the Dolphins.

He won’t, but I would like to see Packers’ tight end Justin Perillo get his own audio stinger at Lambeau set to this:

Um, Charcandrick West is averaging 24.7 fantasy points per game over his last three games.

The best possible Week 10 fantasy football roster in PPR leagues looked like this:

Week 10 Duds

Peyton Manning - (-6.6 fantasy points vs. Chiefs)

DeAngelo Williams - 7.9 fantasy points vs. Browns

Antonio Andrews - 0.8 fantasy points vs. Panthers

He doesn't really care for fantasy football and owners.

Stefon Diggs - 7.6 fantasy points vs. Raiders

Sammy Watkins - 4.4 fantasy points vs. Jets

Four days after torching the Dolphins for 30 fantasy points, Watkins took a trip to Revis Island and was held in check the majority of the game. He finished Week 10 ranked outside the top 50 scoring wide receivers.

Chris Johnson - 5.8 fantasy points vs. Seahawks
