USF AD's car vandalized at USF-UCF game
Someone went too far when the series between UCF and USF was renewed.
The schools, separated by 97 miles, played for the first time since 2008 on Friday at Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando, and the Knights took another step toward a BCS berth with a dramatic 23-20 victory. But the car of USF athletic director Doug Woolard was vandalized outside the stadium, and the guilty party is unknown.
Woolard's tires were slashed, according to the Tampa Bay Times. UCF provided him with a courtesy car for the drive back to Tampa, but the event leaves an unfortunate mark on an otherwise interesting night between the two American Athletic Conference foes who met for the fifth time after the series' hiatus.
Early Saturday morning, USF defensive end Aaron Lynch tweeted his displeasure.
Later Saturday, UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury drove Woolard's car back to Tampa, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Stansbury also released a statement:
"I want to publicly apologize to Doug. I'm disappointed and embarrassed that this happened at our facility. I'm thankful our friends at Carl Black came through with transportation for him to get back home. We always encourage good sportsmanship and responsible behavior and this was neither."
