USC Athletics and POWERADE announced Thursday that they have reached a long-term partnership agreement which makes POWERADE the Official Sports Drink of University Athletics. USC Athletics is proud to partner with POWERADE in their continued association with some of the world’s top athletes and sports properties.

The partnership will provide POWERADE with multi-media sponsorship elements and prime inventory in all USC Athletics’ venues, including sideline marketing rights. POWERADE will provide USC Athletics with POWERADE products, squeeze bottles, coolers, cups and other inventory to help USC student-athletes perform at their best.

“We’re very excited to enter into a long term agreement with POWERADE,” said Dan Shell, Vice President and General Manager, USC Sports Properties. “With the relationship already in place with Coca-Cola campus wide, this new partnership has a great deal of synergies that will provide great service to USC Athletics.”

The agreement was facilitated by USC Sports Properties, which manages the marketing and media rights on behalf of the USC Athletic Department.

“POWERADE hydrates many of the best athletes in the world, including those at the upcoming Olympic Games, at professional sports franchises, and at hundreds of elite colleges and universities,” said Ilan Sobel, Senior Vice President and General Manager, POWERADE.  “We’re thrilled to welcome a school of USC’s caliber to our family, and we look forward to providing top notch hydration options to help the Trojans power through to continued success. Fight on!”

“The care and nutrition of student-athletes at USC are of paramount importance, which is why my team of doctors and athletic trainers and I were involved from the beginning in assessing USC's new partnership with POWERADE from a training and nutritional standpoint,” said Russ Romano, USC Head Athletic Trainer. “We are very excited to have POWERADE partner with us as we feel that its products will keep our student-athletes properly hydrated both on and off the field to ensure that they are prepared to compete at the championship levels that are expected here at USC."

The Trojans begin their 2012 home football season on Sept. 1 against Hawaii. Additional home match ups: California – Sept. 22, Colorado – Oct. 20, Oregon – Nov. 3, Arizona State – Nov. 10 (Homecoming), and Notre Dame – Nov. 24. USC Men’s Basketball will begin their 2012 season this November.

USC Athletics
USC has one of the nation’s most successful athletic traditions. Trojan teams have won 117 national championships (94 men’s, including a national-best 81 NCAA titles, and 23 women’s), more than all but 2 other schools. USC’s men athletes have won more individual NCAA titles (304) than any other school (the Women of Troy have another 64 individual NCAA crowns). Troy has more Olympians, medalists and gold medalists than any school: since 1904, 395 Trojans have competed in the Games, winning 123 gold medals (with at least 1 gold in every summer Olympics from 1912), 78 silver and 61 bronze. Four Trojans have won the prestigious Sullivan Award as America’s top amateur athlete: diver Sammy Lee (1953), shot putter Parry O’Brien (1959) and swimmers John Naber (1977) and Janet Evans (1989). Two Women of Troy have won the Honda-Broderick Cup as the top collegiate woman athlete of the year:  Cheryl Miller (1983-84) and Angela Williams (2001-02). Trojan women have won 14 Honda Awards, as their sport’s top female athlete. USC student-athletes have received 51 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships (in the Top 10 among all schools) and Troy has had 29 first team Academic All-Americans and 4 athletes who were Rhodes Scholars. USC fields 21 intercollegiate teams, 9 men’s (football, basketball, baseball, track and field, swimming and diving, tennis, golf, water polo, volleyball) and 12 women’s (basketball, track and field, swimming and diving, tennis, golf, water polo, volleyball, rowing, cross country, lacrosse, sand volleyball).
