The University of Vermont hockey program has been hit with a hazing scandal once again.

Suspensions and other sanctions were announced on Thursday following an investigation into a Sept. 24 party that involved freshman players being forced to drink alcohol while sitting in boxer shorts.

"This is something that I take very seriously," Vermont AD Jeff Schulman said Thursday, per UVMathletics.com. "Hazing is dangerous, it's against university policy and it won't be tolerated in this Athletic Department. We're fortunate that this incident did not result in any injuries, but these activities always have the potential to endanger the safety and well-being of our students."

In addition to suspensions for the captains and assistant captains, the team is required to attend educational programs on hazing and restorative justice and perform community service, and also be placed on probation for a year.

"I fully support the sanctions and the university's response and I also support the players on the men's hockey team," head coach Kevin Snodden said in the school's statement.

This is not the first time the Catamounts program has been hit with a scandal. Another investigation into a hazing incident led to the school canceling much of its 1999-2000 schedule.
