Twins' Swarzak suffers injury while 'wrestling'

Minnesota right-handed pitcher Anthony Swarzak will be sidelined about a month after fracturing two ribs during a non-baseball activity, the Twins announced Wednesday. Swarzak, 27, fractured his ribs on Jan. 25. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Fort Myers, Fla., on Feb. 12, which means Swarzak will miss the first few weeks of camp.
Twins general manager Terry Ryan revealed later Wednesday that the injury took place while Swarzak was at the team's annual winter fan event.
"He was messing around TwinsFest weekend and wrestling around, and he ended up cracking some ribs," Ryan said. "It's disappointing." Last season, Swarzak appeared in a career-high 44 games, including five starts. He went 3-6 and posted a 5.03 ERA in 96 2/3 innings. Swarzak enters camp as a likely bullpen candidate for the Twins.
