Twins place May on DL, recall reliever Chargois
The Minnesota Twins have placed reliever Trevor May on the disabled list with a lower back strain and recalled minor-league reliever J.T. Chargois, the team announced on Wednesday.
May missed 23 games earlier in the season with back spasms, but has been a consistent presence in the Twins' bullpen in recent weeks, and has allowed just five hits in his last 10 appearances for Minnesota.
The 26-year-old has appeared in 43 games for the Twins in 2016, posting a 4.89 ERA with walks and 59 strikeouts through 42 1/3 innings pitched.
Chargois was recalled by the Twins for the first time in mid-June, allowing three hits and five earned runs while facing eight batters in a ninth-inning appearance on June 11.
He was promoted to Triple-A earlier this season, and has a 1.35 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 13 walks through 46 2/3 innings split between Rochester and Double-A Chattanooga.
