Twins grounds crew gearing up for 2012

DiVito and his crew will have their hands full later this year when country music stars Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw take the stage July 8 for the first-ever concert at Target Field. The setup and takedown process will be about a five-day project, but DiVito said the grounds crew will have to prepare more than a week in advance.

But he's not looking that far ahead yet. The main focus of those at Target Field is April 9, when the Twins open up at home and look to turn the page on last year's 99-loss season. After finishing spring training and Fort Myers and opening the season in Baltimore, they'll take the field in Minneapolis less than two weeks from now.

Not that anyone's counting, of course.

"We have our weekly staff meeting, and for the last three or four weeks I've been counting down the weeks, trying to remind everybody what's in front of us here," Hoy said. "Frankly, I know the guys down in Florida are ready to break camp and get on with playing games. I think we're in position, too. We'd like to get on and start hosting some games again at Target Field."
