Tuesday's Rangers-Astros game scores season-high rating
The Texas Rangers' 6-5 win over the Houston Astros Tuesday (Sept. 15) that moved the Rangers into sole possession of the American League West lead scored a season-best 5.34 television rating on FOX Sports Southwest in Dallas-Fort Worth and was the highest-rated Rangers game on the regional sports network since 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Among the ratings highlights:
• Narrowly edged the season's previous best 5.28 rating set on Aug. 17 vs. Seattle and was the highest-rated Rangers game on FOX Sports Southwest since Sept. 29, 2013 vs. the Los Angeles Angels, which registered a 5.9 rating
• An average of 139,000 TV homes in Dallas-Fort Worth tuned in to watch Tuesday's walk-off win.
• The telecast peaked with a 7.87 rating (205,000 homes) in the game's final quarter hour (10:45-11:00 p.m.)
• The game's final hour (10:00-11:00 p.m.) attracted the largest TV audience in Dallas-Fort Worth, averaging a 6.79 rating (177,000 homes) and beat all local stations during that time period.
• Game also set season-high ratings for a Rangers telecast on FOX Sports Southwest in several key demographic categories, including Men 25-54 (4.77) and Adults 25-54 (3.57).
• Rangers games in September are averaging a 3.1 rating on FOX Sports Southwest after averaging 3.3 in August, currently the team's best ratings month of the season.
• Tuesday's season-best rating improved the Rangers' season average rating on FOX Sports Southwest to 2.9, up +31% vs. last season.
