Top Ariz. recruit Peat commits to Stanford
Feb. 1, 2012
The highest-rated prospect in Arizona, tackle Andrus Peat out of Tempe
Corona del Sol, announced live on ESPNU on Wednesday that he will sign
with Stanford.
Peat, who had been a five-star and top-10 prospect
until Scout's final rankings revision, joins a strong Stanford class
that already was ranked 15th nationally and included five-star linemen Kyle Murphy and Josh Garnett.
Peat picked
Stanford over finalists USC and Nebraska, with the Cornhuskers
considered the favorites by many experts due to last year's signing of
defensive tackle Todd Peat, Andrus' brother.
The 6-foot-7, 305-pound offensive
tackle, Scout's No. 51 player overall in the 2012 class, eliminated
Arizona early in the process and eliminated ASU after the firing of
Dennis Erickson, although it had been assumed for some time that Peat
was likely headed out of state (he actually eliminated the Devils when
he named an initial top 13, then put them back on his top-10 list
following a strong start to the season).
