OK, so bowl appearances provide financial windfalls for the schools, as well as added recruiting and training windows for the competing teams. Auburn's redshirt freshmen, for example, get an additional month of practice that those at Mississippi do not. But banquets and travel and hoopla aside, bowl players also receive the kinds of goodies in their Christmas stockings that would make Cecil Newton stand up and say, "Wait a minute!"
