Tony Romo to undergo further testing on back contusion
Tony Romo will undergo further testing on his injured back on Tuesday, but Cowboys coach Jason Garrett expects his starting quarterback to be fine.
"We'll get the tests today, but we anticipate him being ready to go," Garrett said in an interview with 105.3 FM The Fan. "When we left the stadium last night, he seemed like he was OK, and we'll get the tests today to verify everything."
Romo suffered a back contusion in the third quarter of Monday night's loss to the Washington Redskins. He left the game roughly halfway through the third quarter, and he returned with 1:52 to play in regulation after team doctors deemed him fit to play.
"Obviously he was cleared to go back into the game last night, so we felt good enough about that when the initial X-Rays were negative," Garrett said. "But they want to do some more extensive tests. We'll find out more as the day goes on."
The Cowboys gave Romo a painkilling shot to help him cope with the pain from the contusion, and after the game the quarterback seemed optimistic about his availability for Sunday's game against Arizona.
"My experience is that if I was able to play and come back in at any point, I was able to go," Romo said. "Obviously we will look at things tomorrow and see what it comes to."

Of course, the nature of the injury and the opponent in question are bound to draw concerns. It was against Washington in Week 16 last season that Romo suffered a herniated disc that required season-ending surgery on the back in the first place.
Despite that, Garrett seemed optimistic that the injury wasn't too debilitating -- especially given that Romo was cleared to return to the action.
"We anticipate him getting some tests done today just to verify the tests we did last night -- both before he went back in the game and then afterwards. We'll see where he is," he said.
Garrett was also once again asked if he had considered keeping Romo out of the end of the game and allowing backup Brandon Weeden to finish what had been a strong performance. He answered that as emphatically as he did Monday night.
"Tony's a tough guy, we know that -- he's physically tough, he's mentality tough. Once he's cleared to play, he's our quarterback and he goes back in," Garrett said.
