Tomas plays central role in FOX Sports special on Cuban baseball

Diamondbacks left fielder Yasmany Tomas, the offensive star in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Padres, is a central figure in a 30-minute FOX Sports special, Cuba: Baseball's Final Frontier, which debuts April 25 on FOX Sports Arizona.

In an interview with a Spanish-language interpreter, Tomas talks about the day he left Cuba: "We just got to the coast and left at once. Then we sat on the boat for 16 hours. You can say it was the longest 16 hours of my life. We could be alive. We could be dead. No one knows when you are on the sea."

Tomas' mother, Melba Rosa Bacallao, who still lives in Cuba, talks about the emotions of her son leaving the country to play baseball in the United States: "I was at home like any other day and Yasmany called me. I just put down the cell phone and at that moment, I realized the gravity of what happened."

The Tomas segment, in its entirety, can be seen during Tuesday night's Diamondbacks Live! Pre-Game Show on FOX Sports Arizona, starting at 6:30 p.m.
