Toews On Ice wins William Walker by 2 lengths at Churchill

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Toews On Ice took command at the top of the stretch and went on to a two-length victory over Entertainer in the $100,000 William Walker for 3-year-olds on a rainy opening night of the spring meet at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
Ridden by David Lopez, Toews On Ice ran six furlongs on the sloppy track in 1:10.91 and paid $4.20, $3.40 and $2.40. The colt is named for Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. Trainer Bob Baffert earned his 40th career stakes win at Churchill.
Entertainer returned $5 and $2.60, while Sheikh of Sheikhs was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.60 to show.
The victory, worth $62,000, increased Toews On Ice's career earnings to $307,700, with four wins in eight starts.
Lopez earned his first victory at Churchill in his first mount at the track.
