The day in shutdowns: deGrom, Pagan, Minor

The final three blog posts for the 2014 season will be full of "Player X has been shut down" news, so we apologize in advance for the repetition. Also, remember that starting today, all starting pitchers will be making their final starts whenever they pitch. Watch them, then waive them.
Tuesday's studs & duds
Stud: Oakland's Sonny Gray may have gotten a loss against the Angels, but he allowed just one run in seven innings and struck out 12 batters.
Stud: Dodgers 2B Justin Turner hit two home runs against the Giants.
Stud: Brewers OF Carlos Gomez had a home run, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored. Stat sheet stuffer!
Dud: Felix Hernandez gave up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. Doesn't he know he's not allowed to have games like that?
News & notes
Mets SP Jacob deGrom will skip his final start, so his season is over. deGrom is 9-6 with a 2.63 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and 144 strikeouts in 140 1/3 innings. He's got a solid case for the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
Also shut down for the Mets: OF Juan Lagares (elbow) and 2B Dilson Herrera (quad).
Giants OF Angel Pagan needs back surgery, and is officially done for the season.
Braves SP Mike Minor, who left his Saturday start with shoulder inflammation, won't pitch again this season.
Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) probably won't start again until the playoffs, which doesn't help anyone reading this.
When Marcus Stroman comes back from his suspension this weekend, he'll pitch out of the Blue Jays' bullpen. Daniel Norris will make his first big-league start on Thursday.
Twins 1B Joe Mauer left Tuesday's game after getting hit in the right elbow by a pitch. Don't expect Mauer to play today.
Rays SS Yunel Escobar sprained his left knee on a play at the plate in Tuesday's game, and his season is probably over.
Nationals OF Denard Span left Tuesday's game with a knee injury. The issue doesn't sound serious, but with the Nats having already clinched their division, don't expect Span to play today.
The Orioles expect 1B Steve Pearce (wrist) to return to the lineup on Thursday.
Not that he was going to play again this season, but Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar has had another setback in his rehab from a shoulder injury. Profar was baseball's top prospect not too long ago, and he won't turn 22 until February. He could be an underrated fantasy option in 2015 ... if healthy.
Streaming starters
Robbie Erlin was just okay in a four-inning stint on Tuesday, so we're down to 101-60 for the season. Today's pick is Houston's Scott Feldman (owned in 5.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) at Texas, while Thursday's selection is Yusmeiro Petit (21.5 percent owned) versus the Padres. In five starts since rejoining the Giants' rotation, Petit has posted a 3.73 ERA, with 38 strikeouts against just four walks in 31 1/3 innings.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
