Texas turncoat? Matthew McConaughey is a Redskins fan

It's bad enough to some Cowboys fans that former University of Texas great Colt McCoy will likely start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins when they visit AT&T Stadium next Monday.
Now another famous Texas alum, Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, has let it be known he's a devoted Redskins fan.
That won't be all right, all right, all right with Cowboys fans.
McConaughey, in an interview for the November issue of GQ Magazine, casually mentioned that when he was 8 years old he wanted to be a running back for the Redskins.
Since the 44-year-old McConaughey's trademark drawl would indicate growing up a Cowboys fan, or at least a forlorn Oilers fan, the GQ interviewer pressed him on the Redskins remark.
"Two things," McConaughey replied. "First: 4 years old, watching Westerns, I always rooted for the Indians. Second, my favorite food was hamburgers. The Redskins had a linebacker named Chris Hanburger."

McConaughey was born in Uvalde, a town west of San Antonio, went to high school in Longview and has been very high public about his devotion to the Longhorns.
But all it took was Westerns and a craving for hamburgers to make him a fan of the Redskins, the Cowboys' most hated rival of the 1970s?
"When you're 4 years old, that's all it takes," McConaughey said. "I got a Redskins hat in my bag right now."
McConaughey said he's not a fan of the movement to change the Redskins' nickname, which is viewed by many as a racial slur. He even compared it to the gun control movement.
"We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, 'No, gotta change it'?" McConaughey said. "I know a lot of Native Americans don't have a problem with it, but they're not going to say, 'No, we really want the name.' That's not how they're going to use their pulpit.
"It's like my feeling about gun control: I get it. You have the right to have guns. But look, let's forget that right. Let's forget the pleasure you get safely on your range, because it's in the wrong hands in other places."
McConaughey is also against changing the Redskins' logo, which depicts a Native American.
"I love the emblem," McConaughey said. "I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph. But now that it's in the court of public opinion, it's going to change. I wish it wouldn't, but it will."
