The Houston Texans' quest to make their first Super Bowl is getting off to a rocky start this season. Both Arian Foster (calf) and Ed Reed (hip) were placed on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday.
A player is allowed to come off the PUP list any day during the preseason, but if he starts the regular season on it, he is required to miss at least the first six games, per league rules.
Foster has been rehabilitating a calf injury he suffered in the first organized team activity. Head coach Gary Kubiak said he plans on the running back to only be on the shelf for "a couple days" so he can watch him run before he joins his teammates for full practices, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Reed, who joined the Texans after winning the Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens last season, has been recovering from offseason arthroscopic surgery on his hip after suffering the injury in the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots.
Star receiver Andre Johnson told the Chronicle that he has spoken to Reed, and the injured safety told him he will be ready to start in the Texans' regular-season opener in San Diego on September 9.
